Where Pets Are Family — And So Are You

At Tru Pet, we believe every pet deserves the best — and every pet parent deserves real support.

We’re more than a pet supply store. We’re a community hub for people who treat their animals like family.

Serving Richmond Hill for over a decade, we’ve built our business around three things: honest advice, high-quality products, and heart.

Whether you're here for healthy food, fun toys, or a quick hello, we’re proud to be your neighborhood pet store — local, independent, and trusted.

Meet Michael: The Heart Behind Tru Pet

If you’ve visited the store, you’ve likely met Michael — owner, animal advocate, and the friendly face behind Tru Pet. Known for remembering customers’ names (and their pets too), Michael brings decades of hands-on experience, an encyclopedic knowledge of pet nutrition, and a passion for supporting local rescue efforts.

His mission? To make sure every customer leaves more informed, more supported, and better equipped to care for their pets — no matter the species.

Michael isn’t just the owner of Tru Pet — he’s the reason customers keep coming back. With a deep love for animals, years of hands-on experience, and an unwavering commitment to community, he’s made Tru Pet a pillar of Richmond Hill’s independent business scene.

Whether he's helping a first-time puppy parent choose the right food or supporting local cat rescues, Michael’s approach is always the same: personal, honest, and focused on doing what’s best for the pet.

We’re not here to push a sale. We’re here to make sure people feel good about how they care for their pets.
— Michael Taggart, Owner of Tru Pet

Independent & Local

We’re not part of a chain. We’re a proud Richmond Hill business with deep roots in the community.

Personalized Advice

You won’t find pushy sales here, just real conversations about what’s best for your dog, cat, or critter.

Carefully Curated Products

We only stock what we believe in: high-quality, natural, trusted brands that support your pet’s health.

Rescue Partnerships

We work with local cat rescues to help find loving homes for animals in need. Come say hi to our adoptable cats in store.

A Place That Cares

We remember your pet’s name. We celebrate your new puppy. We grieve with you when it's time to say goodbye.
